MB to GB converter (data storage units)
1 Megabytes (MB, 1000²) = 0.001 Gigabytes (GB, 1000³)
How to convert MB to GB
In the decimal (SI) system used by drive makers, mobile networks and most data bundles, 1 GB = 1,000 MB and 1 TB = 1,000 GB. Operating systems such as Windows count in binary, where 1 “GB” is really 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB. That’s why a “1 TB” drive shows about 931 GB in Windows: nothing is missing, it’s just a different unit.
For data bundles: 1 GB lasts roughly 1 hour of HD Netflix, 2–3 hours of standard video, or a few days of normal browsing and WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1 GB 1000 MB or 1024 MB?
Both are used. Storage makers and networks use 1 GB = 1000 MB. Windows uses 1024 (properly called GiB and MiB). macOS uses 1000.
Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?
1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows divides by 1024³, giving 931 “GB” (GiB). The capacity is the same.
How many MB in a GB?
1,000 MB in a decimal GB, or 1,024 MiB in a binary GiB.
