How to find your Xbox IP address

Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One use the same menus.

Steps

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Go to Profile & system → Settings → General → Network settings.
  3. Select Advanced settings. The IP settings panel shows the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS. The wired and wireless MAC addresses are listed there too.

The main Network settings screen shows your NAT type (Open, Moderate or Strict). Test network connection and Test network speed & statistics are also on that screen.

Set a static IP

Under Advanced settings → IP settings → Manual you can enter an address by hand. A DHCP reservation on the router is usually more reliable (see how to find your router). You can change DNS on the same screen. Popular choices:

Cloudflare
1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1 · IPv6 2606:4700:4700::1111
Google Public DNS
8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 · IPv6 2001:4860:4860::8888
Quad9 (blocks known malware)
9.9.9.9, 149.112.112.112 · IPv6 2620:fe::fe

Private IP vs public IP on a console

The address the console shows is its private IP (usually 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), given out by your router. Online games and other players see your public IP, which is shared by every device on your Wi‑Fi. To see that one, open FernTool on any phone or PC on the same network. More on the difference: public vs private IP.

NAT type is Strict or Moderate?

A strict NAT usually means incoming connections can’t reach the console. Common causes: UPnP is switched off on the router, there are two routers in a row (“double NAT”), or your ISP uses CGNAT. If the WAN IP on your router doesn’t match the IP on FernTool’s homepage, you are probably behind CGNAT and port forwarding won’t work until the ISP gives you a public IP. See why port forwarding isn’t working.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change DNS on Xbox?

Settings → General → Network settings → Advanced settings → DNS settings → Manual, then enter a primary and secondary DNS server such as 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1.

Why is my Xbox NAT Strict?

Usually UPnP is disabled, there is a second router (double NAT), or your ISP uses CGNAT. Check whether your router WAN IP matches the IP shown on ferntool.com.
