Openserve IP address & ASN guide
Openserve is Telkom’s wholesale infrastructure business. It runs the largest fibre and copper access network in South Africa and sells capacity to ISPs. Openserve does not have its own consumer-facing ASN: if you buy Telkom internet over Openserve your IP belongs to Telkom (AS37457); if you buy from another ISP your IP belongs to that ISP.
What your IP says
- Your IP
- 216.73.216.191
- Network
- Anthropic, PBC (AS16509)
Openserve has no consumer ASN; the network above is your ISP.
Openserve ASNs and IP ranges
Openserve has no consumer ASN of its own; see “What your IP says” above for the network that owns your address.
CGNAT on Openserve
CGNAT on an Openserve line is decided by your ISP. Telkom and most other fibre ISPs give fibre customers a public IPv4 address.
To check: compare your router’s WAN address with the IP on FernTool. If they differ, or the WAN IP is in 100.64.0.0/10, you are behind CGNAT. More on CGNAT.
How to find your IP on Openserve
- Public IP: open ferntool.com or run
curl https://www.ferntool.com. - Private IP and router address: see how to find your IP on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.
- IPv6: run the IPv6 test.
Good to know
Fault on the line (no sync, red lights on the ONT) → Openserve via your ISP. Wrong IP, blocked ports, slow routing → your ISP.
Frequently asked questions
What is Openserve’s ASN?
Openserve does not use its own consumer-facing ASN. Your IP belongs to the ISP you buy service from.
Does Openserve use CGNAT?
CGNAT on an Openserve line is decided by your ISP. Telkom and most other fibre ISPs give fibre customers a public IPv4 address.
How do I find my Openserve IP address?
Open www.ferntool.com on a device connected through Openserve. The page shows your public IP, the network that owns it and its ASN. For your private IP, check your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
Why does my Openserve IP show a different city?
IP geolocation is approximate. South African networks often register address blocks to a head office or a large city, so the city shown may not be where you are. The country and network are much more reliable.
