CGNAT on Rain
Rain 4G and 5G connections are generally behind carrier-grade NAT, which affects port forwarding, online gaming NAT type and remote access to home devices. Rain announces IPv6 prefixes, and IPv6 can be a way around CGNAT for apps that support it — check with the IPv6 test.
To check: compare your router’s WAN address with the IP on FernTool. If they differ, or the WAN IP is in 100.64.0.0/10, you are behind CGNAT. More on CGNAT.
How to find your IP on Rain
- Public IP: open ferntool.com or run
curl https://www.ferntool.com. - Private IP and router address: see how to find your IP on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.
- IPv6: run the IPv6 test.
Good to know
5G routers often show a private WAN address (10.x or 100.64.x) in their settings. That is normal on CGNAT; the address websites see is the shared public one shown on FernTool.
Frequently asked questions
What is Rain’s ASN?
Rain announces its IP addresses from AS37105, AS33762, AS37597, AS327840, with AS37105 the largest by IPv4 prefixes (bgp.he.net, 16 October 2026).

How do I find my Rain IP address?
Open www.ferntool.com on a device connected through Rain. The page shows your public IP, the network that owns it and its ASN. For your private IP, check your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
Why does my Rain IP show a different city?
IP geolocation is approximate. South African networks often register address blocks to a head office or a large city, so the city shown may not be where you are. The country and network are much more reliable.
