Vodacom IP address & ASN guide
Vodacom is South Africa’s largest mobile operator. Phones, mobile routers and many fixed-LTE and 5G home products all connect through Vodacom’s own network, so the IP address websites see belongs to one of Vodacom’s autonomous systems. Vodacom also sells fibre packages, which may run over third-party fibre networks such as Vumatel or Openserve while still using Vodacom’s IP space.

An ASN (autonomous system number) identifies a network on the internet. Any IP address announced by these ASNs belongs to Vodacom. Paste an address into the IP lookup to see which ASN it falls under.
CGNAT on Vodacom
Like almost every mobile network, Vodacom places mobile data users behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT). Many customers share one public IPv4 address, which is why your phone may show a public IP that is “located” in a different city, and why you cannot host a game server or open ports on a standard mobile APN. If you need a reachable address, ask Vodacom Business about a static-IP or private APN product.
To check: compare your router’s WAN address with the IP on FernTool. If they differ, or the WAN IP is in 100.64.0.0/10, you are behind CGNAT. More on CGNAT.
How to find your IP on Vodacom
- Public IP: open ferntool.com or run
curl https://www.ferntool.com. - Private IP and router address: see how to find your IP on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.
- IPv6: run the IPv6 test.
Good to know
If you switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, your public IP changes completely — on Wi‑Fi you see your home ISP, on data you see Vodacom.
Frequently asked questions
What is Vodacom’s ASN?
Vodacom announces its IP addresses from AS29975, AS36994, AS37114, AS37137, with AS36994 the largest by IPv4 prefixes (bgp.he.net, 16 October 2026).
Does Vodacom use CGNAT?
Like almost every mobile network, Vodacom places mobile data users behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT). Many customers share one public IPv4 address, which is why your phone may show a public IP that is “located” in a different city, and why you cannot host a game server or open ports on a standard mobile APN. If you need a reachable address, ask Vodacom Business about a static-IP or private APN product.
How do I find my Vodacom IP address?
Open www.ferntool.com on a device connected through Vodacom. The page shows your public IP, the network that owns it and its ASN. For your private IP, check your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
Why does my Vodacom IP show a different city?
IP geolocation is approximate. South African networks often register address blocks to a head office or a large city, so the city shown may not be where you are. The country and network are much more reliable.
